Jujutsu Kaisen is a Shounen fantasy anime, based on the manga by Gege Akutami. The story is about a high schooler, Yuji Itadori. Yuji becomes the vessel for one of the strongest Cursed Spirits, Sukuna, after eating one of Sukuna’s fingers in an attempt to protect his friend. Yuji is taken to be executed to get rid of the finger inside him.
However, it is decided that since normal people can not consume Sukuna’s finger and survive, he’ll be fed all of his fingers and executed after that. Until then, he must join the Tokyo Metropolitan Jujutsu Technical Highschool and train as a Jujutsu Sorcerer. Here we will discuss the latest chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen, Chapter 188.

Kashima’s prowess
In the last chapter, it was revealed that 400 years ago, Kashima was an exceptionally strong sorcerer. When he asked Kenjaku who was the strongest sorcerer he knew, Kenjaku could only think of Sukuna being stronger than him. Thus, it was always known that Kashima’s power levels will be over the top.
In this chapter, the difference in abilities between Kashima and Hakari became slightly more obvious. In the state where Hakari was invincible, Kashima landed a strong hit on him. Although, he was able to reverse the damage and heal himself, if he hadn’t he would have most likely died from the next hit.
Kashima’s attempts to kill Hakari before his immortality period runs out fail as Hakari is able to heal himself. However, it seems like he was prepared for this outcome as he had placed his staff somewhere else to accumulate lightning charges. Right when Hakari’s immortality ends, he strikes him by summoning his staff. Hakari, who was between the staff and Kashima, takes a lethal hit.
Hakari’s Gamble
It’s uncertain if Hakari will be able to survive the hit or not. Nonetheless, at the last minute, right before the chapter ends, he begins unleashing another Domain. The story ends in a cliffhanger, leaving the readers wondering if he is able to form the Domain or if it fails.
The domain itself is called “Idle Death Gamble” (in the official Shueisha translation), making it certain that there’s a chance for it to be successful, even in Hakari’s condition.
Compared to the previous chapters which explained various abilities, this chapter was just packed with action. Moreover, the battle between Hakari and Kashima can be seen slowly reaching its climax. Fans compared this aspect of the manga to Hunter x Hunter, with chapters either being full of explanations or action.
