Disney surprises fans with Mufasa: The Lion King trailer

    Hakuna Matata

The fans of The Lion King have something to be delighted about as Disney has just revealed the first trailer for the upcoming movie in the franchise. ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ is the new entry in the live-action film series and as the name suggests, it will focus primarily on the origin story of Mufasa that we never got to see in the original films.

Mufasa: The Lion King will serve as both the prequel and sequel to the 2019’s The Lion King film because the plot involves both the young and old generation of the lions. The plot of the movie revolves around Rafiki, along with Timon and Pumba, telling the story and adventures of Mufasa to his granddaughter, Kiara – the daughter of Simba and Nala and one of the protagonists of the original The Lion King: Simba’s Pride.

The film will introduce new characters like Taka, a highborn cub who will befriend young Mufasa, Taka’s parents: Obasi and Eshe, Mufasa’s parents: Masego and Afia, and Kiros, who is “a formidable lion with big plans for his pride“.

As we can see, the voice actors of the original live-action namely Donald Glover, Beyoncé, Billy Eichner, and Seth Rogen film will reprise their roles. However, the one actor I am most excited about is Mads Mikkelsen, the new cast member. From his character’s description, he will be having a major role in the film.

Mufasa: The Lion King will reportedly be out in the theaters on December 20th, 2024. Although the fans – including me – had very mixed reviews about 2019’s The Lion King because of its emotionless characters and too much emphasis on realism, I hope that this new entry in the film will be a better film.
