    Within the first week of August 2023, we’ve acquired news of several fun and exciting indie games releasing soon. They range from basic adventure games to relaxing strategy games. The variety in indie games is what makes them intriguing and anticipated by many gamers. With many big games solely focused on improving and advancing towards more realistic and better, Indie games mostly strive to be nostalgic or different.

    2023 has been quite a busy year for indie game releases and it has no signs of stopping soon. If you haven’t found any game to your liking yet, we’re sure you’ll find one here. This August, even in the first week, there are many games being released. So, without waiting any longer, let’s dive into this diverse list of all Indie Games being released this week of August 2023.

    AKIBA’S TRIP: Undead and Undressed Director’s Cut

    • Date: 1st August 2023

    Released by XSEED games, AKIBA’S TRIP is an action role-playing game. Based in Tokyo’s popular Electric Town district, Akihabara, players are tasked to detect vampires called Synthisters. The only thing you need to defeat them is to bare them under sunlight so their bodies melt. The combat system is basic hand-to-hand plus using some everyday objects. This seems like a very basic RPG game with an anime-influenced style and will be interesting to watch how its story plays out.

    Celeste

    • Platform: Mac, PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox
    • Date: 1st August 2023

    Celeste is a 2D platform adventure game that follows the story of the protagonist, Madeline, who is overcoming her quest of completing the climb of the animated version of mountain Celeste. The mountain is a personification of her fears and depression, and she overcomes them all by climbing the mountain through all the stages.

    There is no light

    • Date: 1st August 2023

    There is no light developed by HypeTrain Digital is now coming to Xbox. This is a mystery-based action-adventure game that is set around discovering mysteries of the Church of the Great Hand. There is a lot of gore involved which, apart from its shock value, adds to its dark vibe. If you like intriguing mysteries, this might be just for you.

    Ninja or Die

    • Platform: PC
    • Date: 2nd August 2023

    If you are a fan of Japanese Folklore, Ninja or Die would interest you just as much as it is based on it. Developed by Nao Games, Ninja or Die is a Rougulite 2D platform game that has interesting combat actions added in. From the gameplay trailer, it seems like a basic platform game that allows you to climb up toward the end point while also destroying enemies.

    Lunia Z: Revival

    • Date: 2nd August 2023

    This Action Arcade MMORPG, by VALOFE Company, is an action-heavy game that allows you to control your character in every aspect of combat. Its graphics bring back the nostalgia of RPGs like Zelda or Pokemon where you get to explore the world as you like. If you prefer to focus more on the action and combat of the game, this game will surely be your cup of tea. 

    Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm

    • Platform: iOS, PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox.
    • Date: 2nd August 2023

    Oceanhorn 2 is a sequel to its first game, set 100 years before the first game, and shows you what leads to the events of the future. The game is in the action-adventure genre with beautiful graphics and open-world control. Apart from the storyline, it also has some margin of side quests that you can explore.

    A Guidebook of Babel

    • Date: 3rd August 2023

    A Guidebook of Babel is an interactive adventure story-based game that is based on the concept of the butterfly effect. With this game, you can experience different versions of the stories of Babel and learn how the butterfly effect can affect the storylines. The art is different from what we’ve seen recently, which makes you feel like watching a cartoon episode as the story unfolds. This a unique approach that you should surely give a try.

    Whispike Survivors: Sword of the Necromancer

    • Date: 3rd August 2023

    Whispike Survivors: Sword of the Necromancer is an indie RPG game that allows its players to cultivate and grow strong monsters to defeat enemies. Of course, the seeds need to grow into their complete form on your own little farm. Developed by Grimorio of Games, this game was released on July 23rd, 2023 on other platforms but is now available for Xbox.

    Adore

    • Platform: PC, PlayStation 4+5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox
    • Date: 3rd August 2023

    Adore is a relaxing adventure game that allows the players to build their own team of different creatures and navigate through the land. Your only task is to find and resurrect the God of Creatures. The game has beautiful imagery that can immerse you into its story right away. This game is developed by Cadabra Games.

    Tiny Thor

    • Platform: PC, Nintendo Switch
    • Date: 3rd August 2023

    Tiny Thor is a 2D platform game where players can use the power of Mjölnir on their journey. You can defeat enemies and solve puzzles, all the while using power-ups for your weapon. This is a 16-bit game that gives a nostalgic feel and allows you to explore the realms of Asgard. You can now unleash all the hidden skills used in arcades in this game as it possesses all those aspects from swinging on vines to collecting gems.

    Flutter Away

    • Platform: PC, Nintendo Switch
    • Date: 3rd August 2023

    Flutter Away is a wholesome game that allows you to play as a butterfly researcher going on an immersive trip through the Amazon Forest. Take this chance to explore nature in its raw form and immerse in its beautiful graphics. 

    Astralojia: Season 1

    • Platform: Xbox
    • Date: 4th August 2023

    A slice-of-life fantasy game, Astralojia: Season 1 is soon to be released by Astralojia Studios. The game follows Taku, the protagonist, who wants to retake a difficult entrance exam in order to win admission to a prominent academy. The game is mainly story based with few interactive options and is perfect for those who want a lighthearted interactive game.

    Super Space Club

    • Date: 4th August 2023

    Super Space Club, created by GrahamofLegend, is a Lo-Fi arcade game with basic shooter mechanics. It’s a chill game with an interesting color display and a twist on the shooter game we used to play in our arcades. The smooth-flowing graphics are the cherry on top of the interesting mechanism the game possesses.

    Sclash

    • Platform: PC, PlayStation 4+5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox
    • Date: 4th August 2023

    Sclash is a 2D hack-and-slash game where you need to defeat your foes with your amazing fighting skills. The game is made up of hand-drawn graphics of samurai in beautiful paintings. Do give it a go if you like tension-driven fighting games. 

    VR Skater

    • Platform: PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation VR2
    • Date: 4th August 2023

    Of all the indie Games coming out this August 2023, VR Skater by DEFICIT games is the most different. As said in the title, VR Skater allows you to enjoy a highly immersive skateboarding simulation. Players have the liberty to do all the tricks they can do as a skateboarder they enjoy.

    GigaBash

    • Platform: PC, PlayStation 4+5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox
    • Date: 4th August 2023

    Developed by Passion Republic Games, GigaBash is a multiplayer arena fighting game where you can show your strength. All brawlers are giants who have different powers and attacks from wrecking the players to destroying the basic city landscape. You can fight up to four players to death to prove that you are the best. 

    Within a Dead City

    • Platform: PC
    • Date: 7th August 2023

    Within a Dead City is a small pixelated 4X game that is a unique addition to this list. This game guides players, who are warriors, to find treasure inside a fallen empire. This is something that is not much seen in the gaming realm, so it’s nice to see experimental takes. Due to its different gameplay style, it’s possible to be a new experience after seeing the clean-cut 3D versions in games usually. It’s developed by Moonroof Studios and can be accessed after the 7th of August, 2023.
