    Expanding Your Empire

First things first, upon entering the new realm, it is quite obvious that a huge portion of it is going to be unexplored as indicated by the fog. So in order to explore it you can simply move around by selecting your army unit and then right-click where you want it to go.

    Resources

Exploring surrounding areas will result in you getting your hands on some useful resources like gold, mana, etc. that are essential when it comes to developing your empire. These resources are responsible for population growth and any purchases that you may want to make.

However, it’s not as simple as it sounds. Some of these resources are also guarded by enemies that you will have to defeat in order to take resources from them. To do so you can consider taking your leader’s army into a battle with these enemies that are guarding the essential resource.

    Magic Material

While exploring the realm you might also come across some magic materials that can provide you with some bonuses. These bonuses can also be traded with other players and free cities. Bear in mind that these are quite rare to find and are also heavily guarded. So it’s highly recommended to take a better army than the one you took before.

    Ancient Wonders

You might also come across Ancient Wonders while exploring the realm. These usually come in three difficulty levels and are guarded by some strong enemies. Do consider taking an army that is led by a hero whenever you plan to get your hands on this. Ancients Wonders is hard to get to however it provides you with some really powerful bonuses, making the effort totally worth it.

    Secondary Map

This secondary map is a world of its own, it can be accessed through the tunnels and is also called The Underground.

After making your way to this map the first thing that you may want to do is get yourself the excavation ability from the general affinity tree. This ability will allow you to access the places in The Underground which are usually locked. However, be careful as you might come across some danger when exploring. It’s always better to keep an army close to you (don’t say we didn’t warn you).

Apart from a completely different atmosphere, the most unique thing about this map is that it provides you with some secret routes to some other locations in the overworld.

    Claiming Regions

After exploring a good portion of the realm you can consider claiming some regions using the outpost. These outposts can then be upgraded to walls or to cities as well. The cities can be made with 200 authorities the main thing is the outpost.

you can start the construction from the gear icon in the ruler menu. Also, it is worth mentioning that these cities allow you to demolish structures to get essential resources like gold as well. However, there are a few restrictions as well that might occur when it comes to improvements depending on the terrain or location where you’re constructing the city.

    Infestations

Age of Wonders 4 – Infestations

These are yet another bad guys that you will encounter soon in Age of Wonders 4. Infestations are basically small camps that spawn close to your regions. However, they keep on growing stronger with time, and at any point, they can raid your regions as well.

The best strategy to keep in mind here is to get rid of these camps as soon as they summon. Because these infestations will only grow stronger and are the weakest when they are young. Also, apart from nullifying the threat of getting your cities raided these infestations will also reward you with resources plus hero items so why not.

    Free Cities

We cannot really say if these free cities are your friends or enemies. It all basically depends on the interests of both empires. These minor factions can be friendly toward you which will eventually result in negotiations that benefit both of you. However, if they have this hostile attitude towards you due to any conflict of interest, they may raid your cities so be sure to keep an eye over them.

Or maybe you may want to be the bad guy here and are in need of upgrading your empire and authority. So for that, you can also consider taking these cities by force. In case, you decide to keep it friendly with them you can consider trading the resources and bonuses that you got from ancient wonders as discussed earlier. Apart from the trade, this friendship also opens doors to other stuff as well like communication, teleportation, etc. that you may want to indulge in.

Well, this was all about this quick breakdown of how you can perfectly execute the Age of Wonders 4 strategy map along with some additional tips as well.
