After the live-action remake of Pinocchio by Walt Disney, a new adaptation is on its way. The 1883 movie: The Adventures of Pinocchio, which got famous from being animated by Disney, is getting a new animated movie. This time Pinocchio 2022 is in the form of a stop-motion musical fantasy film. This animated film is directed by Guillermo del Toro who is known for his world-renowned movies. This movie is a project by Netflix and one of the first three done with him so let’s see what magic he brings to the screen this time.
We finally see Pinocchio in this new teaser trailer, narrated by Ewan McGregor. In addition to McGregor, the cast stars newcomer Gregory Mann as Pinocchio and Game of Thrones David Bradley as Geppetto. The cast also includes Tilda Swinton, Christoph Waltz, Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson, and Burn Gorman.
Idea of Pinocchio 2022 by Guillermo del Toro
This Pinocchio, like previous Del Toro creations, appears darker than the Disney-made rendition of the figure. This is a good take on the stories as they cater to adult audiences too.
As this director, Guillermo del Toro, usually provides a slightly spooky vibe before melting the heart, his perspective on the living puppet is gothic. This is a nice refreshing take on the previously made children’s fairytale stories. Here’s what he has to say about his likes of Vanity Fair.
“I’ve always been very intrigued by the links between Pinocchio and Frankenstein. They are both about a child that is thrown into the world. They are both created by a father who then expects them to figure out what’s good, what’s bad, the ethics, the morals, love, life, and essentials, on their own. I think that was, for me, childhood. You had to figure it out with your very limited experience.”
According to the video, which you can view above, it will be a visual show. With dazzling animation that transforms not only Pinocchio but all of the characters, into wooden sculptures. The beautiful color palette with crisp scenery also adds to the screen a lot so this will surely be a treat to watch.
The movie Pinocchio 2022 is expected to release in November. There is no solid date as of now but it will surely be in November of 2022. This can be a nice gift to watch with family in winter holidays, or maybe too dark to not. Let’s wait and see how will it be like.
