After years of waiting, Avatar 2 is finally coming to the big screens. In 2009 the revolutionary director, James Cameron first brought the world of Pandora to life. Now, the sequel – Avatar 2 will be here on December 16, 2022. Read up also on Love Death + Robots coming soon on Netflix.
The beauty of Pandora is back
The trailer opens with a shot of Jake, Neytiri and the Na’vi tribe within the mesmerizing forests of Pandora. This will take viewers back to everything they loved in the first Avatar film. The entire world seems to encapsulate you within and we can feel that once again. The focus on Jake and Neytiri shows that they have aged and time has passed in their world.
Jake and Neytiri’s adopted son
Jake and Neytiri have adopted a human son named Miles Socorro, played by Jack Champion. Born on a military base on Pandora while being too small and fragile to be transported back to Earth, was taken to Jake’s family. He’s been brought up alongside Jake and Neytiri’s Na’vi children but he isn’t entirely accepted, with even his adopted mother one of the enemies.
We see shots of a flight of Banshees swooping over Pandora’s oceans. We were introduced to the banshees in the first installment and now they are back with a different breed that can live in water as well. And they might have unique abilities to the mountain banshees. They still possess the neural interface, however, meaning they can be flown by Na’vi.
Avatar: The Way of the Water introduces Metkayina, a new tribe of Na’vi. We will see the Sullys forced to flee their home environment in the rainforest. They will seek sanctuary with the Metkayina, but will struggle to fit in – likely in part because of Jake’s human origin and the fact he and Neytiri have adopted a human child. We might also see potentially a more significant conflict among the tribes.
Avatar 2’s tagline is “This Family is our Fortress.” This elaborates that the franchise is changing shape; where the first Avatar focused on the unity of the tribe, this sequel will hone in on a single family of the Sullys, who must stand united in the face of a hostile world. Avatar 2 might be the biggest movie of 2022. For more entertainment news, keep following Retrology.
