Aokiji and Akainu fought each other on Punk hazard for the position of Fleet Admiral. It would dictate marine policy for years to come. Akainu vs Aokiji fight was so fierce that it changed the laws of nature. The battleground Punk Hazard was boiling on one half and freezing on the other. The battle lasted for 10 whole days and resulted in the favor of Akainu. He became the Fleet Admiral replacing Sengoku. Aokiji who got defeated would never work as a subordinate for Akainu, decides to lead the marines.
Although the fight was meant to be till death, but Akainu had enough sympathy to spare the life of Aokiji. However Aokiji managed to live but got severely injured during the fight, he lost his left leg and his right arm is also wounded. Kuazn here used his devil powers to help Aokiji make a new prosthetic leg out of ice.
