Gachiakuta characters are rich in depth, ranging from powerful fighters to emotional healers. While almost every Cleaner and Raider brings something unique to the table, there are definitely a few who shine brightest (at least from our perspective). Below, we have listed our favourite characters, explaining what makes each of them so memorable and significant. Of course, not everyone could make the list; nearly all of Gachiakuta’s cast is likable in some way, but these are some of our personal favourites.
Gachiakuta is a dark-fantasy, dystopian action anime (and manga) series. It was created by Kei Urana with art by Hideyoshi Andou. The anime adaptation premiered in July 2025, produced by Bones Film, directed by Fumihiko Suganuma, with writing by Hiroshi Seko and music by Taku Iwasaki.
The world of Gachiakuta is harsh — it’s divided between the lofty Sphere and the polluted slums called the Ground, where “trash beasts” roam and a group called the Cleaners fight to maintain balance. Within this gritty setting, each Cleaner wields a Vital Instrument, imbuing ordinary (or discarded) objects with anima so they can fight or heal. It’s a beautifully layered show, both gritty and emotional, with a strong ensemble cast.
Best Gachiakuta Characters
Following are our top picks from the characters in Gachiakuta so far. The characters have been selected not only by their “power,” but also by their narrative relevance, likability, and what makes them stand out. The list’s order doesn’t represent any ranking, and we have only included the characters introduced in the anime so far.
Regto

While Regto isn’t present anymore, his impact looms large. He was Rudo’s foster father, raising him with kindness and giving him the “3R” gloves, a Watchman Series vital instrument that becomes central to Rudo’s identity. Regto’s legacy is deeply emotional: his gentleness and moral guidance shaped Rudo, and his death is the inciting tragedy that sends Rudo into the Pit.
He’s not a fighter in the conventional sense anymore, but his role as mentor and father figure is foundational, setting up Rudo’s quest for justice and his complicated relationships with other Cleaners.
Semiu Grier

Semiu is the Cleaner receptionist and a “Giver” whose vital instrument is a special pair of glasses. These glasses enhance her visual ability to see kinetic details and even peer into someone’s essence or soul.
Although she may not be on the frontline of combat, her insight is valuable, and she often provides emotional and moral support. She has been appreciated as a grounded, observant character.
Tamsy Caines

Tamsy is a deeply intriguing character; officially a Cleaner on Team Eager, but with murky motives. His vital instrument, Tokushin, allows him to weave thread-like nets that ensnare enemies, and he can manipulate those threads in dangerous ways. But the complexity comes from his hidden identity: he is also known as the “Angel,” and his goals go far beyond being a mere Cleaner.
He’s calm and composed outwardly, but morally ambiguous and emotionally manipulative. This dual nature makes him compelling; many fans suspect he’s one of the major antagonists in disguise. His presence raises the stakes: not only does he challenge Rudo physically, but psychologically, too.
Gris Rubion

Gris is one of the more grounded, dependable characters in the Cleaners: a Supporter, not a Giver or front-line fighter. He’s physically imposing, with very strong grip strength; he can crush trash-beasts’ armour with his bare hands; and deeply caring, often acting as a mentor/older-brother figure, especially to Rudo.
One of his most touching moments is when he saves Rudo in dangerous situations or when he reassures him emotionally. Gris is honourable, kind, and surprisingly spiritual, with a good-luck charm he prays to before missions.
His strength isn’t just physical, but emotional: he balances the more chaotic or volatile personalities in the team, and he very much anchors Team Akuta in a moral way.
Eishia Stilza

Eishia is particularly special because she’s one of the few among the Cleaners.
Her vital instrument is “Type: Heal,” a power cord that lets her heal injuries, which is rare, given how many characters fight or destroy.
Personality-wise, she’s shy, introverted, and lacks self-esteem, but she deeply cares for her teammates and doesn’t shy away when they need her help.
Eishia’s role might not be glamorous in battle, but without healers like her, the Cleaners would be much more vulnerable. Her compassion and quiet determination make her a moral heart in the group.
Riyo Reaper

Riyo is energetic, bold, and incredibly skilled. She’s a Giver on Team Akuta. Her Vital Instrument is The Ripper, a pair of scissors that she wields with her legs like scythes, creatively and aggressively.
Her backstory is also interesting: she used to be a hitman, which gives her a darker edge, but she’s not just a killer; she’s friendly, caring, and supportive, especially toward Rudo.
She also has a strong “welcoming” vibe: when Rudo first joins the Cleaners, she is one of the warmest presences, helping him feel like he belongs. Riyo’s combination of strength, energy, and warmth makes her a fan favourite.
Rudo

As the protagonist, his arc is the emotional core of the anime: from being framed, to falling into the Pit, to confronting the truth behind his guardian’s death and the corruption around him.
What makes Rudo so compelling isn’t just anger or trauma; it’s the vulnerability underneath. His growth is messy, human, and constantly tested. His Vital Instrument, born from Regto’s gloves, represents survival, memory, and transformation.
Rudo’s journey ties every character on this list together. He grows because of them, and they grow because of him. And while the world of Gachiakuta is brutal, Rudo carries the emotional throughline that makes viewers stay invested.
Zanka Nijiku

Zanka is Rudo’s appointed mentor/trainer when he joins the Cleaners. His vital instrument is the Lovely Assistaff, a staff-like weapon that vibrates and lets him sense things around him, almost like a radar.
He’s a bit of comic relief: calm, collected, but also prone to volatility. His personality complements Rudo’s well, and their interactions feel genuine and earned.
But Zanka isn’t just funny; he’s competent. He has strong experience, and Enjin recognizes his ability, entrusting him to guide Rudo. Zanka’s balance of mentorship, humour, and raw skill makes him indispensable to the story.
Enjin

Last but definitely not least is Enjin. He is the leader of Team Akuta and arguably one of the most central figures in Rudo’s arc. Personality-wise, Enjin is calm, laid-back, and incredibly perceptive. He sees Rudo’s potential early on and brings him into the Cleaners, teaching him how to use his Vital Instrument.
His Vital Instrument is Umbreaker, an umbrella that can float, attack, shield, and extend via a long wire, making it very versatile. Beyond raw strength, Enjin’s real power lies in mentorship. He pushes Rudo hard but cares deeply, acting like a big brother or father figure. He also has charisma: he believes in grit, in messy fights, and respects people who aren’t perfect, and that gets reflected back in how other Cleaners respond to him.
Fans frequently call Enjin one of the closest characters to Rudo emotionally. To me, Enjin is the heart of the Cleaner team: strong, wise, caring, and a guide who helps transform Rudo from a broken, angry boy into someone capable of hope and real change.
This was our take on the top Gachiakuta characters. Naturally, this list is subjective, and we’re hoping that more characters from the manga are introduced soon, who carry the same amount of personality and strength as our favourites.
Not at all. The series has a wide cast of unique and likeable characters. The ones discussed here are simply some of the most memorable and fan-favourite personalities from the show.
They stand out due to their personality, development, screen presence, and the impact they have on the story. They’re also among the characters viewers tend to connect with the most.
No. Only characters who appear in the anime were included, so readers who have not read the manga can follow along without confusion.
It avoids major plot twists, but it does mention character roles and general traits. Minor spoilers may be present.
Rudo is the central protagonist of the anime, and most of the story follows his journey, growth, and the challenges he faces.
