NieR:Automata anime is on its way! Check out details

The news of the anime adaptation of NieR: Automata, a 2017 action RPG developed by Square Enix and PlatinumGames, has truly been an unanticipated surprise for both anime and video game enthusiasts all over the world.

The game creator and director, Yoko Taro had some interesting remarks to make about the anime adaptation. In a talk with the animation director Ryoji Matsuyama, the man behind several successful anime series, including Little Witch Academia and Gurren Lagann Parallel Works, Yoko commented on the announcement saying, “When I actually heard about making an anime version, I thought, ‘What? This late?’”

Yoko Taro also was of the view that the anime won’t work so great if it was a direct simulation of the game so he wanted to experiment a little with the storyline. “Nier: Automata was a story we created to be a game, so copying it as is wouldn’t make an interesting story for an anime,” he explained.

    Square Enix Announcement

The news for an animated TV series in order was announced by Square Enix during the game’s fifth-anniversary live stream. It revealed that the anime would adapt the story of 2B, 9S, and A2.

The initial story of NieR: Automata follows three battle androids who are in an unrelenting war against alien machines for the fate of humanity. At the same time, their lives will soon be changed due to an unanticipated revelation of a terrible secret.

Two character videos for the anime were also revealed along with the official title for the anime which is NieR:Automata Ver1.1a.

It was also unveiled that the anime will star 2B and 9S as protagonists and the anime itself by the initial glance looks pretty faithful to the adaptation despite Yoko Taro’s comments about not adhering to the original video game storyline.

It was the producers at Aniplex who wanted to stick closer to the game’s story so in exchange, the name of the anime is different. Yoko Taro also commented on Masuyama’s respect for the game, further apologizing in advance for any discrepancies between the two versions as he is the one who wanted them.

Aniplex also revealed an eight-minute long video with English subtitles featuring interviews with the cast and crew of the series. Predictably Ryouji Masuyama is directing the anime at A-1 Pictures and is also in charge of the series composition alongside Yoko Taro. Jun Nakai is designing the characters while serving as chief animation director. Music composition is under MONACA.

After the success of the original RPG, we can tell the fans have naturally anticipated big things for the anime adaptation.
