Guide to fix God of War low FPS issue (2022)

    Check System Requirements

    Before anything, check the God of War system requirements to see whether you have the required gear to run the game or not. It’s okay if your PC doesn’t match God of War recommended system requirements, however, it should meet the minimum in order for the game to perform well. If that’s not the case, then firstly a system upgrade would be required to fix God of War stuttering issue.

    • Storage: 70 GB available space
    • Additional Notes: DirectX feature level 11_1 required

    Change Graphics Driver Settings

    To fix God of War low FPS issue on PC, first and foremost, tweak the graphics setting in Nvidia or AMD control panel. You have to change the advanced options like Texture Filtering, OpenGL, Vertical Sync, etc.

    For God of War best Nvidia settings, go to Nvidia Control Panel -> Adjust Image Settings and Preview -> Select 3D Image settings -> Advanced 3D settings. Then do the following changes.

    Max Framerate: 165
    Low-Latency Mode: Ultra
    OpenGL Rendering GPU: Graphics Card
    Vertical Sync: On
    Texture Filtering Quality: High Performance
    Power Management Mode: Maximum Performance

    For God of War AMD settings, change the settings to the following:

    Texture Filtering Quality: Performance
    Radeon Anti-Lag: Enabled
    Radeon Chill: Disabled
    Radeon Boost: Enable
    Anisotropic Filtering: Disabled
    OpenGL Triple Buffering: Disabled
    Morphological Anti-Aliasing: Disabled
    Surface Format Optimization: Enabled
    Tessellation Mode: Off

    Update Graphics Driver

    If the settings don’t fix God of War PC stuttering issue, then try updating your Nvidia or AMD graphics drivers to the latest versions. Oftentimes, the latest versions are optimized for the newly released game and greatly enhance the performance.

    Disable Startup/Background Applications

    Also, try disabling all the extra background applications to decrease the load on the system. These include:

    • Antivirus
    • MSI Afterburner
    • Nvidia GeForce Experience
    • Steam
    • Photoshop, etc

    Enable Game Mode and GPU Scheduling

    In order to increase God of War performance, you can also try enabling Game Mode on Windows 10 and 11. It will help in minimizing the background processes so that your God of War gets more FPS and better performance.

    You can do it by typing “Game Mode“ in Windows Search and selecting Game Mode settings. There will be an option to turn on the Game Mode.

    Install God of War on SSD

    Another way to fix God of War graphics issue is to install the game on SSD. This can speed up the loading of the game files which can possibly give you a relatively higher frame rate.
