Fixing Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong low FPS issue, stuttering, and frame drops

Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong is a role-playing video game created by Big Bad Wolf and released in May 2022 by Nacon. Officially, it’s available on Windows, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, and Nintendo Switch. This vampire-themed detective role-playing game falls short and has gotten mixed reviews. However, numerous players have reported a low FPS issue in Vampire The Masquerade Swansong on their PC and are looking to improve performance.

You’re not alone if you’re experiencing frame rate drops and stutters while playing on your PC. To simply resolve such an issue, it is recommended that you follow this troubleshooting method.

We’ve listed all of the available workarounds below, which should come in handy. Simply follow each step one by one until your issue is entirely resolved. Let’s get started without wasting any more time.

    1. Check System Requirements

Compatibility issues with your PC’s specifications are the most common source of such problems. So, before leaping to any conclusions, we recommend thoroughly reviewing the game’s system requirements as well as your PC characteristics. For this title, we’ve listed both the minimum and recommended system requirements.

    Minimum System Requirements:

    • OS: Windows 10
    • Processor: Intel Core i5-2300, 2.80 GHz
    • Memory: 6 GB RAM
    • Graphics: Radeon HD 7790, 4 GB / GeForce GTX 750Ti, 4 GB

    Recommended System Requirements:

    • OS: Windows 10
    • Processor: Intel Core i5-3470, 3.20 GHz
    • Memory: 8 GB RAM
    • Graphics: GeForce GTX 1070

    2. Update Graphics Drivers

Check for graphics driver updates on your PC to ensure that games and other graphics-intensive programs function smoothly. To do so:

To get the Quick Access Menu, right-click on the Start Menu.
From the list, select Device Manager.
To expand the list, double-click on the Display adapters category.

Then, on the dedicated graphics card’s name, right-click.
Choose Update driver > Search for drivers automatically.
If an update is available, it will download and install the most recent version.

Alternatively, you can manually download and install the most recent version of the graphics driver from your graphics card manufacturer’s official website. Users of Nvidia graphics cards can update the GeForce Experience app by visiting the Nvidia website. Users of AMD graphics cards can get the same information on the AMD website.

    3. Switch Between Display Modes

From the in-game settings menu, toggle between fullscreen borderless and windowed bordered display modes or vice versa. Depending on your screen resolution and PC specifications, it will assist the game files in running smoothly. You can give it a shot once. This benefited some of the affected players.

    4. Run the game as an administrator

To prevent user account control-related privilege issues, run the Swansong game executable file as an administrator. To do so, first:

On your computer, right-click the Swansong exe shortcut file.
Now go to Properties and select the Compatibility tab.

Make sure that the Run this software as an administrator checkbox is selected.
To save your changes, click Apply and then OK.

    5. Close Background Running Tasks

Unnecessary background running applications or programs might demand more CPU or Memory resources on the system, resulting in system crashes, delays, stutters, low FPS issue, and other difficulties in Vampire: Swansong. To do so, first:

To access the Task Manager, use Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
Now go to the Processes tab and pick any tasks that are operating in the background and consuming too many system resources.
To close a task, click End Task > Repeat the process for each unwanted task one by one.
Restart your computer to effect the changes.

    6. Stop Background Downloads

You’re probably trying to download or install other game updates at the same time, regardless of which client you’re using. While launching and playing the Swansong game on the client, it’s best to suspend or stop any other background downloads. After you’ve finished playing, you can continue downloading games or patch updates.

    7. Switch to Auto Settings in Video

If you haven’t been able to resolve the frame drop issue, follow the instructions below to switch to auto settings in video mode.

During gameplay, press the Esc key on your keyboard.
Now select Video from the in-game Settings menu.
Select Auto Configuration > Make sure to restart the game to see whether the frame drops or lags are still present.
If the lag or frame drops persist, click All and reduce the video settings in the game menu.

    8. Set High Performance in Power Options

If your Windows system is set to Balanced mode in Power Options, it signifies that the system and hardware aren’t performing at their best. Set the High-Performance mode for improved outcomes throughout the tough gameplay. If you’re using a laptop, though, the high-performance setting will drain the battery faster. To do so, first:

Select Start Menu > Type Control Panel from the search results and click on it.
Select Power Options from the Hardware and Sound menu.
To pick it, click on High Performance.
Close the window and turn off your computer completely. To do so, go to Start > Settings > Power > Shut Down.
