The game is currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows. As the game has just been released, the players are facing some issues like game freezing on a black screen or crashing unexpectedly. Hopefully, a future update will fix these issues but even it doesn’t, we have got you covered. In this guide, we will show you how you can fix Shadow Warrior 3 crashing and black screen issues.

Following are the methods through which you can potentially fix the unwanted crashing and freezing.

    1. Check System Requirements

Firstly, check the Shadow Warrior 3 system requirements to see whether you have the required gear to run the game or not. Your PC should meet the minimum requirements in order to run the game. If that’s not the case, then firstly a system upgrade would be required to fix the Shadow Warrior 3 stuttering issue.

    Minimum

    • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system

    • Memory: 8 GB RAM
    • Graphics: Radeon R7 260X (2048 VRAM) or equivalent. GeForce GTX 760 (2048 VRAM) or equivalent.

    2. Run a Clean Boot

You can run a clean boot to ensure that no third-party software is interfering with the game’s processes. It will also ensure that no extra resources are being used by the system. You can do that by:

    1. Press Windows Key + R
    2. Search msconfig
    3. Go to Services tab
    4. Click on Hide all Microsoft services box
    5. Click on Startup tab
    6. Open Task Manager
    7. Disable the unused tasks
    8. Restart the system

    3. Turn Off Steam Overlay

In order to fix the problem, you can also try turning off Steam Overlay. You can turn it off by the following steps:

    1. Right click Shadow Warrior 3 in Steam Library
    2. Click Properties
    3. Open General section
    4. Uncheck the “Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game” option

    4. Update the Graphics Card Driver

If you are running the game on an outdated GPU driver, it will lead to the game crashing at startup. Update both the GPU and sound drivers if they require additional updates besides the Windows update. The game will run smoothly and hopefully crash-free with updated drivers. Both Nvidia’s latest drivers and AMD’s latest drivers can be found on their official websites.

    5. Update DirectX

DirectX installation can cause a lot of games to crash on startup and Shadow Warrior 3 is no exception. If the game is crashing on startup, you need to update DirectX to the latest version.

    6. Disable Windows Defender or Antivirus

Shadow Warrior 3 can also be crashing due to a restricted firewall. Therefore, you might also want to try temporarily disabling Windows Defender or any Antivirus you might be using. However, it should be noted that disabling protection in Windows could be a security threat. Alternatively, you can whitelist Shadow Warrior 3 in the Defender to potentially avoid having crashing and freezing issues.

    7. Verify Files Integrity

Let’s not give up yet! If you have had no luck in solving Shadow Warrior 3 crashing issue, give a shot at verifying files’ integrity. Here’s how you can verify Steam files. Wait until the verification completes and relaunch the game to check if it still crashes at launch.
